Now into February 2015, so time to celebrate the 3rd birthday of this blog. First entry was posted on 19th February 2012, relating to the beginning of my trip to Jamaica which started on 10th February. Since then I've written 130 posts and had other 75000 visits to my website with 98000 page views. Not the most spectacular figures you'll find anywhere but I'm quite proud of them!
It's interesting re-reading my early posts from Jamaica. Slightly alarmed to discover that I was quite often writing a post a day, with two per day on at least one occasion. One a week seems about right nowadays, although it can sometimes be difficult to think of something to write about, hope this is not too obvious in the resulting posts (except for the non-blog post, of course....)
In re-reading my Jamaican posts, it's striking how many things I noted are much the same here. So in both Tanzania and Jamaica you end up getting bills in supermarkets which just can't be paid, eg. TSh 75 292 when the minimum unit of cash is TSh 50. Also in both countries fruit and vegetable is sold in supermarkets, and more so on the street, which is not 100% perfect. Amused to see this recent story in which Jamie Oliver calls for this idea to be introduced in the UK - quite right, Jamie, Jamaica and Tanzania, and doubtless many other countries, are way ahead of you!
Aware that my posts are drifting away from what I'm doing to what I'm thinking, which I suppose is a bit inevitable really - I went to a beach resort yesterday, very pleasant, but very similar to previous such visits so wouldn't seem to justify another post. I've been promised a couple of guest posts in the next few weeks, so watch this space for those!
Many thanks to all faithful readers over the last three years, have been quite surprised a number of times by people telling me how much they've appreciated what I've written. Thank you particularly to people who have contributed comments, please do keep them coming! And do ask questions, happy to answer them in a future blog post or by private communication as appropriate.
So happy birthday to my blog, here's looking forward to the next year and beyond. Looking forward to all future comments, questions and suggestions for posts!
