28/7/14: 2 public holidays this week, but which days?

Eid Ul-Fitr, the celebration of the end of the month of Ramadan, is due this week.  Here in Tanzania this means two public holidays.

But when exactly?  The nature of these holidays is that they are called by the local Iman according to the sighting of the month a day or two before they actually happen.  When I packed up at Saturday lunchtime I assumed that I wouldn't be back in the office until Wednesday.  I'm now here on Monday morning, not knowing whether I'll be back in tomorrow or Wednesday.  Roads seemed very quiet this morning, presumably many people are taking the whole week off.

This feels strange, very strange, difficult to settle to a working week with so many question marks around it.  I'll let you know how things went next week.
