I trust you've had a wonderful Christmas, celebrating the birth of our crucified, risen and ascended Lord Jesus, with a wonderful 2018 ahead of you.
I'm aware that I've not put much on my blog recently, so thank you for coming back! The first term teaching was a bit overwhelming to be honest, although by the end of the term I felt I was one step behind rather than 3 which seemed like a big improvement. Various thoughts to share on such matters as the use of Google and classroom management, so watch this space!
So, looking forward to the year ahead, one immediate resolution is to aim - choosing my words carefully! - to write a blog post each week. Got a few in mind, including one on the book of Esther which is where I'm up to at the moment, my goodness it's good! And also looking for other outlets for writing.
I'm also looking to get value for money from assorted subscriptions, three in particular. I break even with my swimming monthly payment if I go 5 times a month rather than pay each time I go, and that really should be achievable. I need to remember that 'The TImes' has news as well as puzzles, and at least to glance at the other pages each day. And, in accordance with the point above about looking for writing outlets, I need to read the 'Times Educational Supplement' and not just buy it.
(Parenthetical thought: is it just me, or are you also prone to fall into the trap of thinking eg. that you've read a book just by buying it or taking it from the library, that you've taken exercise just by paying for the swimming pool or gym subscription or because you've bought new sportswear or equipment, that you've learnt a language because you've paid for the online lessons? End of parenthetical thought.)
Going back to school I'm aiming to diversify teaching methods, last term was very much a matter of keeping up with the immediate so, now that I'm slightly back in the rhythm of things there's the opportunity to get a bit ahead and apply some of the theory I've stuffed my head with over the last few years,
I'm looking to continue using the New International Version Application Commentary to explore the Bible, still a couple of years to go at the current rate, alongside reading through the Bible in a year. This year my aim is to develop my prayer life, any advice on how to pray meaningfully alongside a busy working schedule gratefully received!
Better stop now before I overcommit myself. Would love to hear what you're planning for 2018. And happy to agree to pray for you in your endeavours if you pray for me in mine.
