Now a week back into work, a bit busy one way or another so difficult to believe that it was only last Sunday that I was busy eating Eggs Benedict and missing planes. So let me tell you about the week - in so far as I can still remember it!
Hoogland Hydro is located between Johannesburg and Praetoria with wonderful austere views:
The lawn outside the building was alternately being occupied by wildebeests (hope I'm getting this right!)
and baboons who wouldn't let me get close enough to photograph them properly. Also close by are yellands (do correct me if I'm getting this wrong):
Spring is coming in South Africa:
So, Hoogland Hydro is a health farm, including guided early morning and afternoon walks - which gave rise to the pictures above - the visit would have been worth it for the walks alone! Plenty of exercise - although some of the classes required me to know the difference between left and right which is a bit taxing when you're supposed to be on holiday. Food is fantastic, predominantly vegetarian, with also a cooking demonstration, looking forward to experimenting with lentils soon, not least as a salad ingredient, crucial thing here is not to overcook them. And lots of really interesting people to talk to.
So a week with - no mosquitos, no air conditioning, no heating, (ie. neither are necessary in South Africa at this time of year), no tea, no coffee, no alcohol, very little meat, no TV, no videos, fantastic! Really good to be reminded that it's possible to live without all of these things. Am pleased to say that I've kept up the exercise since being back, and am just about to go to the treadmill now before then going off to church. As to the other aspects - difficult to sustain in a busy life, but I am drinking less coffee than before (I think).
Oh, and also - drew a Mandala which is almost complete, now have the oil pastels I need to finish it off. Will show you the results soon!
